Go the Extra Mile

Travel, work, walk, cycle, dance, jump… Whatever you and your feet get up to the Solid Sneakers are ready for it

You told us about your not so solid sneakers, these were the let-downs:

1

The leather cracked up under pressure

2

The outsoles couldn’t hack the pace

3

The seams gave up the fight

4

The price was ridiculous

A foot up, for years to come

Tough as leather (unsurprisingly)

No faux hide here, we went for full-grain leather or suede (depending on the colour that wins you over). They are sourced from farming cooperatives in Italy and Portugal that know their stuff. The leather’s then prepped and vegetable-tanned by the experts at Mastrotto, who we've been working with for ages. It’s robust without being too stiff, meaning you can go the distance without the leather cracking up.

SOUL SURVIVOR

Outsoles peeling away’s a classic way to ruin a good walk. We know the pain. That’s why we sourced our subtly characterful outsoles for these from the chaps at Globotrilha in Portugal. These seriously hardwearing soles clocked up top marks in the CTC lab’s durability tests. Don’t worry, we review the stats so you don’t have to.

Let’s get technical

A top-quality outsole can only go so far solo. It reaches its full potential when you pair it up with expert shoe construction. Which we did. The Solid Sneakers are made using the Strobel method. Basically, we glue the outsole to the slipper liner before sewing it to the upper with a thick, super-sturdy thread. It’ll keep your outsole and your upper in cahoots for years to come.

Learning our lines

Being hardwearing wasn't all we wanted from the Solid Sneakers. We also needed them to look the business. So we've been working on the design, refining little things here and there over the years. We removed the piping from the front quarters and the heel making the Solid Sneakers even sleeker. A no-nonsense timeless profile that’ll still look the part ten years down the line.

Securely fastened

Nothing spoils the fun like your shoelace snapping mid-high-jinks. So we selected some durable, all-cotton laces, and popped a second pair in the box so you can swap in a fresh pair for the return leg of whatever epic journey you take.

Eyes on the prize

Eyelets don’t get much limelight, but they’re understated lynchpins in the world of well-made shoes. Bad eyelets break, fray laces, pop off and so on. Our eyelets are made from metal, making them low-friction. The result? Your laces won’t be getting roughed up every step and you can adjust them with zero elbow grease required.

Insider knowledge

Removable natural-dye leather insoles with silicone interior? Welcome to the comfort zone. The leather keeps things smooth — socks or no socks — whilst that silicone keeps things bouncy and your hard-working feet blister-free. We also added a slot in the shoe tongue so it doesn’t start tilting like a metronome.

Breezy does it

No one wants sticky trotters, so we added some air ducts on the instep to give your feet a welcome breather. Cool… comfortable… these beauties couldn’t be fresher if they came with a pack of Polos stashed under the tongue.

Minimal mastery

We kept things strictly classic with our design. No daft logos, no zany colours and no gimmicky technology—just a clean, understated shape that’ll always look good, whether worn with shorts, jeans or chinos. Leave the space shuttles to NASA.

All day wear

“Three years in the wearing with minimal care and still looking the part”.

Imagine how they’d look with a little TLC.

“2000%. I've had them for two years and I wear them whenever the weather's nice, almost every week. On the other hand, I'm a maniac when it comes to my sneakers, so I sponge the edge of the sole (just with hot water) every time I get home. They still look great and the natural wear of the leather is great!” - Alexis

Around the world in Solid Sneakers

“900 kilometres on foot, everyone’s worn out, except my shoes”.
